Not all orphans live in orphanages. In Ethiopia there are 5 million orphans and most of them live in the communities where they were born. They face some incredible challenges including meeting basic survival needs, gaining an education, staying healthy, and ultimately growing to adulthood and self-sufficiency.

In Dera, youth sit in the school yard asking for entrance, but are turned away because they cannot afford the annual fee of $2.75. Many have no parents to help them and are caring for younger siblings. Learn more of how you can help these children gain the education they need for a successful future. |
As orphans and others progress and gain the skills needed for success, they begin mentoring and teaching other vulnerable children. Once contributing to their communities, these youth begin applying skills to generate income and establish a livelihood. Learn how your help and experience will create future opportunities for these children. |
