Profile of a Changed Life: Imabet Tiruneh

Seven years ago, Imabet Tiruneh was supporting five children while earning only ETB14 a day ($0.50 / day).  To feed her family two meals a day, she needed ETB21 ($0.75), leaving her unable to nurture her children and unable to pay their school entrance fees.  As a result, two of her daughters were forced to live with and work for neighboring families.

After receiving business training and a microloan from Hope Arising, Imabet started a poultry business and now sells chickens and eggs at market. She recently purchased an ox, which helps support her extended family and she continues purchasing additional chickens to grow her business.

Through these efforts her income has more than tripled.  More importantly to Imabet, she has gathered her children home and can afford to enroll them in school.  Her oldest son recently completed a college education and is  now employed. Imabet’s four younger children are enrolled in local schools and her oldest daughter is preparing to graduate and pursue higher education.

Imabet credits Hope Arising for the improvements in her life, “I am free from worrying how I will purchase school materials and uniforms because of Hope Arising. My children are receiving an education and earning good grades.”  She expressed her gratitude for all who donated to assist her and indicated she owes her success to the assistance she received from Hope Arising.  Imabet wants all of our donors to know, “I am praying that you will be spared from Covid19.”
